Frequently Asked Questions

Problem Colour

I colour my hair at home and my ends are darker than my roots. Can you please tell me how to fix this problem? Thank you, Amy Hi Amy, you have two choices depending on your preference. If you like the dark colour on the ends then you will have to darken the roots to match the ends. If you like the roots then you will need to lighten the ends to match your roots. I wouldn't advise you to prelighten at home as it is a complex job so feel free to book into the salon. For future reference do not overlap your colour just touch up roots when necessary. When you acheive your ideal colour it is worth investing in Redkin colour extend range. These are an amazing range of products, really helping to stop your colour fading, increase vibrancy and adds shine. Hope this helps, Michelle.

Damaged Hair

I need some help desperately. I straighten my hair on a daily basis using GHD's and I feel as though my hair condition is awful. My hair is breaking, very dull and really dry. Any recommendations? Sandra A common problem Sandra and there are several options that will help. First of all I would recommend an alternative choice of straighteners. There are a newer range called Cloud Nine which have a temperature setting meaning they are kinder to your hair. They are a little dearer than GHD's although the long term benefits will be worthwhile. These are available exclusivley from our salon. Secondly I would recommend you invest in Redkin Extreme Shampoo which puts protein back in your hair which gives it strength. Redkin also offer a soft conditionor which is fantastic for adding moisture leaving your hair soft and silky. To go the extra mile they also offer a leave in after care treatment called Redkin Anti-Snap this is again pure protein that adds further strength to your hair and prevents the breakage problem your having. All these products are available in the Salon so feel free to contact us or pop in to talk to somebody. A regular hair cut every 6-8 weeks would also start to show a huge improvement in the condition of your hair. Gema.

Flat Hair

Please tell me how I can add more body into my hair? I have tryed everything from blowdrying to backcombing and nothing seems to work...Vivian Hi Vivian. The first step is to invest in some root full product. Redkin Guts is a spray volumising mouse and it is amazing, so amazing that it's part of our salon range and is well worth the money. An alternative is Redkin's root full spray which is a little lighter so better for finer hair. Both products are brilliant depending on your hair type. Another helpful tip is to try different blowdry teqniques...big round brushes are easier to work with and blowdrying upside down also works a treat. Happy to help, Chris.

Styling Advice

Dear View, I am after some styling advice. I am a man with long hair and I find it really difficult to find products to acheive the surfer messy hair look I wish to acheive. Wax is too heavy for my hair, hairspray just makes my hair crispy, and mouse makes my hair too curly. Do you guys have any suggestions for products? Many thanks, Kai Hi Kai you are completly right in your description on products that you have previously tried. From our salon range of Redkin products I would seriously recommend you try a product called Wool Shake. It is a very strong product which gives that blown away, textured look. It has added salt in the product which will acheive the result you are looking for. A great little tip while applying is to use the product while your hair is dry then use the cold setting on your hairdryer to blast through your hair to maximise the look. Alex.

Flaky Scalp

I have tryed every shampoo for anti dandruff from Head & Shoulders to T-Gel and nothing seems to be working as I still have white flakes at the end of each day. Is this problem even fixable? Hope you can help, Ben Most people are confused as to wether they have dandruff or just a flaky scalp. Based on your description Ben I would suggest that you do not have dandruff as this is sticky and yellow in colour. A flaky scalp is more suited to your description therefore these previous shampoos you have been using will not help as they are specifically created for dandruff. Flaky scalp is generally caused by stress, a bad diet or from using hair products that are not PH balanced. I would recommend that you set time aside to relax and chill out each week, start to eat healthier if you have a poor diet and in the meantime pick up some Redkin Scalp Relief Soothing Balance Shampoo. Regular use of this shampoo will bring your PH balance back to neautral, calm you scalp and leave you flake free. You can pick up this shampoo from the salon. Hope this is helpful, Kara.

Greasy Hair

Please help me, I have the greasiest hair ever! I wash it every morning and by the evening it looks like it hasnt been washed for days. It is really getting me down and I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions? Sue Do you use a conditioner? If so, try not to use it as much. When you do use it only apply it to the midlengths and hair ends, never the root area. If possible try not to use conditioner at all. A common problem for greasy hair is touching it. Try not to touch your hair so much as the more you handle hair the greasier it becomes. Redkin Deep Clense Shampoo is brilliant for greasy hair as it contains chelators which clarify to remove copper iron hard water minerals and styling product that build up in your hair. Would love to hear how you get on. Alex.

Dry Hair

Hi View Hairdressing. My hair is extremely dry. I colour my hair blonde at home, which I know is the cause but I really cannot afford salon prices. Although I am now very worried about the state that my hair is in. It is really dry and very straw like. Are there any shampoos/conditioners or products that will revive my hair from the damage that the colour has caused? I hope so. Karen Hi Karen. We totally understand your concern about being unable to afford salon prices as a box dye is so much cheaper. As a colour technician I will stress to you that salon is best for a few reasons. We are experts in controlling the areas where the bleach is placed. It is so damageable to bleach on top of bleach so we will literally just apply the bleach to unbleached roots. This is an impossible task to do on your own, even if you are a qualified colourist (I know). Also, salon prices are not as high as you expect. We have added a wide range of discounts to make it affordable for people to come and have a treat with one of our talented professionals. Take a look at our discount page for more info. Highlights are are safer option than an all over bleach and much kinder and sofet to your hair and you wouldn't need a full head every time you visit there are so many options even Flying Colours will leave you feeling blonde and root free from only £30. The product range I would advise you to try is Redkin All Soft as it strengthens and softens gives you suppleness and shine and more importatly deeply moisturises. Hope to see you soon, Kara.

Unmanageable Hair

My hair is completely unmanageable as it is thick, fizzy and going grey. I have no idea how to make it controlable and smooth again? Please help, Maureen Hi Maureen. Unfortunately going grey can take an effect the texture of your hair. Using a Time Repair shampoo and conditionor will help to tame your frizz followed by Time Reset for your styling. This range is specifically for mature hair and results are instant. You could also book in the salon for a healthy, well deserved treatment and walk out of our salon feeling like a new woman. I hope I've helped you, Kim.

Grey Hair

Dear The View Hairdressing, My husband and I are both grey and ar ehaving hair issues. My hair is 100% grey yet has a brassy feel to it and my husbands is still very dark with greying sides so he feels like he has a two tone effect. Neither of us want to cover our grey with an all over colour but ultimately both of us are unhappy. Hopefully you can help us. Many thanks, Mary Hi Mary. Firstly for your hair I would recommend coming into the salon to see me for a toner treatment. This will eliminate your brassiness. I also advise for you to keep this colour fresh at home by using our Redkin Silver Shampoo as this keeps away all yellow and gold tones. For your husband we have a new colour teqnique called L'Oreal Cover 5. I know you mentioned he was against colour but this treatment only colours a certain percentage of white hair to give an even tone. He can opt to go back as many years as he chooses. I look forward to seeing you soon, Kim.
